Why are we the way we are? Are we really capable of change? These questions have puzzled me throughout my life. There are times in life when each of us feels we are swimming against the tide. We need a lifeline to guide us through the waves. I have learned that the telling of our story to someone who really cares and fully listens helps in healing. I see that change is possible, and that therapy is a light in the storm.
I value the complexity and uniqueness of people and am inspired by the personal struggles and triumphs of my clients. Many clients come to therapy with distressing symptoms such as unrelenting sadness and grief or overwhelming anxiety and panic attacks. Together, we discover the meaning behind these symptoms as well as what changes are possible to improve their lives. I believe that by understanding why we are the way we are, we can make informed decisions that will improve our lives. Therapy is a journey, a safe haven, a healing process and an experience of self discovery.
My theoretical orientation is broad based. I am educated in multiple therapies and incorporate several different therapies into treatment depending on my client, their particular situation, preferences and experience. I utilize therapies such as Person-Centered Therapy, Existential Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Psychoanalytic or Insight Oriented Therapy, Solution Oriented Therapy and Couples and Family Therapies. Overall, I believe that what works in therapy is more important than strictly adhering to one particular theoretical orientation. |
